Several things can contribute to a lapse in creativity, so it will take some self examination to figure out whats affecting you. However, getting to the root of the issue can make it easier to overcome.

Here are some things that can contribute, see if they apply to you:

1. Feeling Tired

Perhaps you finally have the time to create but don't have the energy. It may not be physical exhaustion, but mental and emotional strains can drain us out through the week and leave our brains needing a rest.

2. Boredom

If you don't find your art as exciting as you did in the past, maybe you're stuck in a rut. If you're bored with your subjects or medium, it could lead to inactivity.

3. Distraction

When there are too many things going on around you, it can be hard getting started on a project and then staying focused on it.

Steps to Overcome Artist's Block

Below are some things to try so you can conquer your block and get creative.

Get Moving

Usually sitting and staring at a blank page will get you nowhere. A little healthy exercise can help clear away the cobwebs, and energize you. Do some stretches at home, or get out and take a walk.

Change Things Up

Experiment with a new subject or medium so you don't get bored. If your medium allows, try taking your art outside for a change of pace.

Eliminate Distractions

Try to find a quiet spot to create. Not everyone has a room as a dedicated studio, but maybe you can devote one quiet corner to your art.

Get Connected

Talking to other artist's in your local community, through an online forum, or class can help by bouncing idea off each other. Reading a book can be a great help too!

Overcoming a creative block boils down to finding the cause, developing a helpful solution, and sticking with it. Don't let an artist's block discourage you, it's normal, and can lead to new forms of creativity as you work through it.
